In electrowinning, thin "starter plates" of copper are suspended in the solution. Passing an electrical current through the solution causes copper to be deposited on to the plates. When electrowinning is complete, each plate (seen above on the fork lift) becomes several hundred pounds of very pure (99.99%) copper.
