The scooter is the primary means
of transportation for the residents of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and
Viet Nam in general. Scooters come in all colors, generally have fairly low
horsepower motors, run on gasoline and seat from one to five people. Typically
a young person would start out with a small scooter and then once married
upgrade to a larger scooter or simply buy a larger seat to accommodate their
new spouse. As children arrive, they would again be faced with upgrading or
buying a large seat to hold the growing family. Scooters are very agile and
adept at navigating not only broad boulevards but also narrow streets. In
areas where parking is a premium, the scooter often can make it’s own
parking space. This collection of scooter photos showcases various ways scooters
are relied upon and tended to in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam
with a population around 3.5 million.
