Parking Garages in Philadelphia
These images of parking garages in center city of Philadelphia portray a banal form of urban infrastructure as dark, sensual and erotic. Parking garages are both small exterior organisms and large interior ones, falling outside of the binary codes - inside and outside, public and private, horizontal and vertical - which govern urban space. They transgress site boundaries and city blocks, allow unexpected glimpses through buildings, expose unseen surfaces, permit illicit routes and make new connections. They are a kind of threshold to an urban unconscious, a not yet or no longer urbanism, site of fantasies, fears, projections and desires. .
