“Neck of the Moon” is a graphic novel that tells the story of Lucy Astrid and her brother Skinny – two kids from small-town Texas – and Lucy’s impromptu journey across southern borders and into the land of volcanoes, cowboys, gypsies and tourists.

This excerpt introduces Lucy, an amateur photographer who sends esoteric postcards to her brother throughout her adventure in the distant south. Lucy meets a wandering gypsy sage in search of the most beautiful place in the world. Indeed, each character in “Neck of the Moon” is in search of a panacea for tedium, or loneliness, or the temptations of American culture.
