Located north of Los Angeles in the Antelope Valley at the former Marine Corp Air station, is the Mojave airplane storage facility. Mojave has the ideal conditions required for long term Airline storage, including an extremely dry climate and a hard ground ideal for parking aircraft. Over 250 airliners are stored in the desert here, a significant increase over the last couple years, due to the recent slowdown in air travel.

Currently at the field are many older second generation aircraft including Boeing 727, 737 and Douglas DC-9’s, awaiting resales to foreign airlines or salvage companies. Also present are a few new planes delivered directly from the factory, or newer aircraft on temporary strorage waiting for a pick up in the travel business.

Mojave Airport is also home to a large group of researcher companies involved in experimental aircraft projects under subcontract to the military or airplane manufacturers.
